Kookipi Creek fire continues to block traffic in Fraser Canyon, nearing 17K hectares

KAMLOOPS — There is still no timeline for the reopening of Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the Kookipi Creek wildfire remains active in the area, raising safety concerns for anyone travelling through the area.

South of the Falls Creek reconstruction project, crews from BC Hydro are continuing their work to rebuild the power lines that were burned to the ground by the wildfire.

The wildfire is located between Boston Bar and Lytton. It is 16,961 hectares in size, according to the very latest update from BC Wildfire Service on Monday, August 28 at 12:37 p.m.
