ABBOTSFORD — Canada’s beloved Canadian Air Force Snowbirds are among the highlighted performances as the Abbotsford International Airshow opens Friday in Abbotsford.

The Snowbirds, who are known as the 431 Air Demonstration Squadron with the air force, are in the midst of their Western Canadian schedule, having made stops in Saskatchewan and Alberta in the last month.

The aerobatic group is scheduled to appear all three days of the airshow, debuting Friday evening at approximately 6 p.m. Performances Saturday and Sunday are scheduled for 2 p.m.

Airshow fans are sure to be thrilled with the performance of the United States Air Force F-35 Lightning II Demo Team. The F-35 will perform a series of passes. With the aircraft’s stealth technology, the jets will seem to appear out of nowhere.

Friday evening’s show will conclude with a performance by North Star Drones. They promise a mesmerizing aerial light show display with a theme of Space: Earth to the Stars. Friday night will be the only performance of the drones.

Gates to the airshow will open Friday at 2 p.m. and then Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. Performances will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday and at 11:30 a.m. on the weekend.

The Abbotsford Police Department is advising drivers of a number of road closures in connection with the airshow. Road closures will be in place along Tracey St/Walmsley Avenue between King Road & Clearbrook Road, along Huntingdon Road between Mt. Lehman Road and Townline Road, on Hamm Street between Huntingdon Road and Zero Avenue and on Townline Road South of King Road.

In addition, BC Transit will be offering free transit service through the month of August.
