CHILLIWACK — One of the busiest weekends of the year is here. Over the B.C. Day long weekend provincial highways will be jammed with travellers looking to enjoy a few days off.

The provincial government says drivers should expect higher-than-average traffic volumes. ICBC says that on average, every B.C. Day long weekend will see three people killed and 600 people injured in 2,100 crashes throughout the province. Planning ahead and using extra caution should help to keep everyone safe.

Fraser Valley residents headed to the interior can expect delays on the Coquihalla Highway with 70 km/h construction speed zones in place at the Bottletop, Juliet and Jessica bridges. And drivers should be prepared for changes in speed limits as road conditions change.

Delays are also expected on Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon between Hope and Spences Bridge. A pilot truck remains in place to guide single-lane-alternating traffic through one stretch of the highway. In addition, a temporary traffic light remains in place at a rail crossing.
