ABBOTSFORD — When the atmospheric river events of November 2021 caused unprecedented chaos in and around Abbotsford, Abbotsford Police Department spokesman Sgt. Paul Walker was a steady hand during a turbulent month.

“Paul’s first days in media were during the flood and he ensured open and transparent communication,” Abbotsford Police Chief Mike Serr said on Facebook. “That never wavered during his tenure; a community builder.”

More than 18 months removed from those tumultuous events, Sgt. Walker will be heading on to his next assignment but remaining with the department.

Sgt. Walker announced Wednesday evening that he will leaving his role as media relations officer for the Abby PD and taking on the role of sergeant in charge of the department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.

“This change came on a little sooner than expected, but I’m excited about the new challenges ahead,” Sgt. Walker said in an email Wednesday night. “Thank you to each of you for your support and assistance during my time as the media officer. Although I’m not going far, if there is anything I can do to assist, please reach out.”

Constable Artur Stele will be taking over as the full-time media officer effective Monday, June 5.

“Artur is currently one of our media backup officers and is very capable of taking on this portfolio,” Sgt. Walker said. “Thanks again everyone.”
