51st annual Yarrow Days celebration this weekend, parade Saturday morning

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack and Yarrow residents alike are invited to celebrate the embodiment of small town spirit at the 51st annual Yarrow Days, a celebration for the whole family, this Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4.

The festivities begin bright and early Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast, by donation of cash or a non-perishable food item), at Yarrow Christian Reformed Church, 42285 Yarrow Central Road, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Proceeds go to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

If running, walking or biking is your thing, consider the Fun Run that gets underway at 8 a.m. The starting point is the Yarrow Community Centre at 4670 Community Street. There are 2K and 5K routes, with proceeds to benefit the Yarrow Volunteer Society. The best part is, no pre-registration is required to partake in the run.

Around the same time, there will be a Show & Shine car event at Yarrow United Church, 4336 Eckert Street. Spaces are limited, cars are welcome at 8 a.m. Entry is by donation to Yarrow Volunteer Society. More info and entry details at https://fb.me/e/Md4dM2PZ.

The marquee event of the community celebration is the parade, which commences at 10 a.m. sharp and starts from Yarrow Community School, 4595 Wilson Road. The parade will head south from the elementary school onto Wilson Road, west on Yarrow Central Road to Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church, 41995 Yarrow Central Road. There will be road closures from approximately 9:30 a.m. to approximately 11:15 a.m.

The Yarrow Fire Department will host an open house of its facility at 42385 Yarrow Central Road from approximately 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. There will be a fire safety demo house, water play, a chance to explore the fire trucks, and more.

After the parade, gather at Yarrow Pioneer Park (4390 Kehler Street) for an all-day entertainment stage, kids kids games, petting zoo, photo booth, concession, merch sales, vendor village, and more. The entertainment schedule is as follows:

On Sunday, there’s a brunch for all from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. under the tents on the east side of Chestnut Springs, 42300 Yarrow Central Road. Lastly, there’s a non-denominational church service in Pioneer Park (4390 Kehler Street) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., co-hosted by the churches of Yarrow.
