HOPE — The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment in Chilliwack is on the final leg of a series of community meetings designed to solicit feedback from the very residents it serves between Chilliwack and Boston Bar.

Hope residents are invited to directly share their input on community policing strategies for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment (UFVRD) at a meeting Thursday night, May 25 at the Hope Recreation Centre, 1005 6th Avenue, starting at 6 p.m.

At a minimum, As RCMP personnel make decisions about the next couple years, they’d like to engage the broader Hope community about what matters to them concerning policing.

Doors open at 6 p.m., the presentation begins at 6:15 p.m., and discussion will commence at 6:30 p.m. Topics include local policing initiatives, 2022 in review, community survey responses, and open dialogue with decision-makers from the RCMP.

The UFVRD consists of four community police offices located in Chilliwack, Hope, Agassiz and Boston Bar. As a regional detachment, the RCMP is tasked with providing high-quality policing service for each of these municipalities and the surrounding areas, which include 23 First Nations.

This strategic planning process includes a comprehensive community engagement process to seek input from citizens and stakeholders on policing and safety concerns in local communities. Information collected will be shared with the communities the RCMP serves and will help to identify and develop the priorities, goals, objectives and actions of the UFVRD.

Meetings were already held in Boston Bar (May 16), Agassiz (May 17), and Chilliwack (May 18 and May 23). There is an upcoming meeting for Harrison Hot Springs residents on Tuesday, May 30 at Harrison Memorial Hall, and an Indigenous-focused meeting on Wednesday, May 31 at the UFV Gathering Space in Chilliwack.
