CHILLIWACK — Expect to see a few more Mounties around Cultus Lake Park between now and the Labour Day long weekend in September.

Cultus Lake Park Board announced in a press release last Friday (May 19) that the RCMP have returned to Cultus Lake for their fifth year of the established Community Policing Agreement of 2019.

The agreement means dedicated RCMP officers will be stationed at the park from the May long weekend until the end of September long weekend, providing law enforcement coverage during the park’s busiest season.

RCMP members will be deployed from the Community Policing Office, located in the Visitor Services office at the park. Community policing will be in addition to the current RCMP boat patrols that are already in place in the park.

The park board released a statement saying the annual agreement is an important part of keeping the Cultus Lake Park community safe and secure during the busy summer months.

As it relates to public safety, a Cultus Lake resident expressed concern about public intoxication and inappropriate behaviour in public areas within Cultus Lake Park, according to minutes from the park board meeting held on Wednesday, May 17. In response, the park board noted that the increased bylaw and RCMP support starting during the long weekend would convey the message that certain antisocial behaviour is not acceptable and the park has zero tolerance for alcohol consumption in public areas.
