Man crashes car after avoiding deer on Dewdney Trunk Rd.
MISSION — A man who succeeded in avoiding a deer late last week wasn’t so lucky when he subsequently crashed into a cedar tree on Dewdney Trunk Road west of Mission last week.
According to a social media post from the Mission RCMP, Mounties responded at around 10 p.m. on Friday night, May 5 to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Dewdney Trunk Road near Welch Avenue. The driver told police that he swerved after a deer jumped out onto the road in front of his vehicle. While he was successful in avoiding the deer, he wasn’t as fortunate in avoiding a tree next to the roadway.
The driver and his passenger received minor arm injuries, but were able to get out of the vehicle on their own while waiting for friends to pick them up. All airbags deployed and the vehicle sustained significant damage.
Mission RCMP personnel say they have received an increase in reports related to wild animals on roadways and in the community recently, which commonly happens in the spring months.
