HOPE – If it seems like firefighters were exceptionally busy in the eastern Fraser Valley yesterday, you’re not alone.

Although it’s not normally known for high call volumes compared to bigger cities like Chilliwack and Abbotsford, the Hope Fire Department says its crews were called to a vehicle fire, three medical calls, two motor vehicle incidents and an alarm activation on Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to a vehicle fire on Lougheed Highway Tuesday (June 23). Fire crews responded quickly to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to any nearby bushes or trees.

“Thank you to our partners and to the community for keeping roadways clear and giving crews room to work,” Hope Fire wrote online.

Across the eastern Fraser Valley, there were four fires on Tuesday. A fire broke out at an RV campground in Harrison Hot Springs in which six trailers were lost.

There was also a fire east of Agassiz due to downed power lines.

In Chilliwack, there was a shed fire in the 45600 block of Watson Road at around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Less than an hour later, a log debris pile along the Vedder River appears to have been intentionally set.
