B.C. Highway Patrol pulls over American doing 262 km/hr on the Coq
MERRITT — An American motorist may regret his need for speed after he was caught driving 262 kilometres an hour in a 120-km zone Sunday afternoon.
In a press release from authorities, a member of the B.C. Highway Patrol was conducting speed enforcement in the northbound lanes of Highway 5, about 22 kilometres south of Merritt, when the officer observed a red Alfa Romeo Giulia rapidly overtaking two vehicles. The officer determined that the vehicle was traveling at a ridiculous speed of 262 km/h in a posted 120-km/h zone.
The driver was stopped and the sports car he was driving was promptly impounded.
Corporal Jean-Rene Michaud with the B.C. Highway Patrol said May is High Risk Driving Awareness month in British Columbia, and officers with B.C. Highway Patrol – Central are focusing their enforcement on dangerous driving behaviour on B.C. highways.
