Serious vehicle accident closes Hwy. 1 in Yale, north of Hope, both directions

YALE — A vehicle accident on Highway 1 in Yale, north of Hope, has closed the highway in both directions at the Yale Tunnel, and may have involved a fatality and/or a motorcyclist.

Drive B.C. wrote in a tweet at 8:52 p.m. that Highway 1 is closed in both directions at the Yale Tunnel due to a vehicle incident. Crews are on scene, an assessment is in progress, and motorists heading that direction should expect major delays.

The next update from Drive B.C. is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Helicopters and police are reportedly headed toward the small town of Yale as of 9:43 p.m.

A social media user impacted by the highway closure says the Lower Mainland ICARS (Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service) had not arrived on scene as of 8:48 p.m. Thursday evening. Motorists and residents in Yale are waiting while an investigation is underway. ICARS serves a catchment from Pemberton to Boston Bar and is headquartered at the Surrey RCMP facility on Green Timbers Way.

Social media users are reporting a fatal incident occurred near the Yale Tunnel. The vehicle accident happened at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
