Chilliwack RCMP investigating early morning fire in Soowahlie First Nation

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP are investigating after a fire broke out early Thursday morning on Soowahlie First Nation land near Cultus Lake.

According to Jamie Leggatt, director of communications for the City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Soowahlie First Nation land at about 1 a.m. early Thursday morning, February 23.

The fire was contained to one building there on Soowahlie land and there were no injuries or fatalities, Leggatt said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Chilliwack RCMP.

Halls 1, 4, 6 and Chilliwack River Valley were called to the scene.

A social media user noted that approximately 10 emergency vehicles, including police and fire, responded to the scene. There were numerous police vehicles on scene. Another noted that once the fire had been suppressed, B.C. Hydro would be summoned in order to cut power.
