CHILLIWACK — Selfish vandals, graffiti “artists” with too much time on their hands, and other crooks made life a little more difficult last year for city employees who would rather be dealing with other tasks and responsibilities.

The City of Chilliwack wrote in its fourth quarter report that it incurred over $160,000 in 2022 due to graffiti and vandalism of operations infrastructure, recreation facilities, and civic facilities, as well as wire theft from streetlighting.

According to a report from corporate services, the City recorded $128,509 in vandalism to operations infrastructure the past fiscal year.

December represented the highest month for vandalism to operations infrastructure, during which $17,688 in damage was incurred.
