Burnaby RCMP, Emergency Health Services and Burnaby Fire Department attended the scene. Tragically, two passengers in the sedan were pronounced deceased at the scene, Cpl. Urano confirmed. The driver of the sedan was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, however, they were not believed to be life threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck was arrested and transported to the Burnaby RCMP detachment for investigation. 

Jessica Wang said Amy and a friend were travelling together in an Uber on Highway 1 when they were struck by the pickup truck driver.

“Amy was only 34 and is already greatly missed by her parents, her brother, me, her two nephews, and so many other family members and friends,” Jessica Wang wrote in her GoFundMe. “I’ve set up this fundraiser to help Amy’s parents with the cost of her funeral and other expenses that have come with her sudden death. No parent should ever have to bury a child. Helping them financially is a simple way we can help bear their burden and support them during this horrible time. All money will be given directly to Amy’s parents”

Jessica Wang described her sister-in-law as a woman of faith.

“Our family is so thankful that Amy had a relationship with Jesus and we know she is with Him in heaven. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who donates. We also want to thank each witness and first responder who was at the scene for all of your help and care,” Jessica Wang wrote. “Don’t drink and drive.”

The online fundraiser has raised over $44,000 from 330 donations for the family of Amy Wang. In a response to the outpouring of support, Jessica Wang wrote, “From the bottom of our hearts – thank you to each one of you who has shown our family love and generosity through your donations. The money raised so far will fully cover the burial site (which I’ve learned costs a lot of money in the Lower Mainland) with some extra to pay for the funeral itself. We are blown away with people’s kindness and care towards our family. God bless you all.”
