Search crews activated after couple’s small boat disappears in the Fraser River, leaving them stranded

FRASER RIVER – Search and rescue crews were activated last week after a couple’s dinghy disappeared from an island in the Fraser River where they anchored in the middle of the night, prompting a call to first responders for help.

Mission RCMP Corporal Harrison Mohr says police were contacted at about 1:30 a.m. early Wednesday, Sept. 16, by a couple who had become stranded on an island in the Fraser River. Police say the couple had taken a white inflatable dinghy to the island, and anchored it there while they had a fire. When they returned to the boat, it was gone. 

Mission RCMP activated Mission Search and Rescue, whose volunteers attended and rescued the couple from the island and returned them back to land. 

The couple’s boat was not located.  It was a white inflatable dinghy with “Ray 500” written on the side, and a Mercury 9.9 horsepower outboard motor. If you have seen the boat, please call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 26-12292.
