No election campaign needed for some FVRD area directors after being acclaimed

CHILLIWACK – Four Fraser Valley Regional District elected officials won’t have to campaign over the next month now that they’ve been acclaimed.

In a statement, the FVRD said four area directors have been acclaimed following the close of the nomination period.

They include Chilliwack River Valley Area E Director Patti MacAhonic, Area H Director Taryn Dixon representing Columbia Valley and Lindell Beach, Area D Director Bill Dickey representing Popkum, and Area C Director Mel Waardenburg (representing Hemlock Valley, Harrison Mills, Lake Errock and Weaver Creek and several First Nations including Douglas, Leq’a:mel, Samahquam, Scowlitz, Skatin and Sts’ailes).

The FVRD noted that a candidate is acclaimed when the number of eligible candidates nominated does not exceed the number of seats available, meaning no vote is required for that position.
