CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack is set to take over management and operations for the Chilliwack Coliseum one year after the City regained its ownership from the Chiefs Development Group (CDG).

Staff have been working with the CDG on a transition plan for tenants, community partners and user groups since ownership reverted in 2025.

“The Chilliwack Coliseum is a valued community asset, and we look forward to working closely with user groups to support scheduling needs and ensure a smooth and well-coordinated process,” said Mayor Ken Popove.

The City entered into a Public-Private Partnership (P3) agreement with the CDG in 2002 to finance, design, build and operate the Coliseum, which allowed the City to have a state-of-the-art arena at a lower cost.

“Bringing the Coliseum fully into our operations will allow us to better align programming, customer service, maintenance standards, and booking processes with the rest of our recreation facilities,” Popove added.

“We anticipate this transition will help streamline access for user groups and the public, improve consistency in how our facilities operate, and strengthen our ability to plan, invest, and deliver services over the long term.”

The changeover is officially set for May 1.

All new booking requests and inquiries for the Coliseum must now be directed to the City’s Recreation and Culture Department at recreationandculture@chilliwack.com. Any existing schedules may still be accommodated when possible.
