ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say the Emergency Response Team was deployed to a home in Abbotsford Monday night following a reported shooting in which several uncooperative individuals barricaded themselves inside.

According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, police responded to a reported shooting at approximately 8 p.m. in the 33500 block of Cannon Avenue. Officers quickly identified a home known to police that was believed to be connected to the incident.

Sgt. Walker says that during efforts to evacuate the home, several individuals became uncooperative and barricaded themselves inside, prompting the activation of ERT members due to the nature of the call and information that firearms were present inside the home.

At one point, residents in the area were asked to remain inside while the police operation was underway. The Air 1 helicopter had been present during the time of the police activity.

Nine people were safely removed from the residence and detained by police. During the ERT operation, distraction devices were used, which caused loud bangs heard throughout the area. The incident was safely resolved shortly after midnight, and no injured persons were located.

Sgt. Walker says the residence is currently being held by police pending a search warrant, which investigators expect to serve later today. No arrests have been made at this time.
