91-year-old senior in mobility scooter struck by car, in serious condition at hospital: RCMP

MAPLE RIDGE — Mounties in Maple Ridge say a 91-year-old pedestrian who was riding on a mobility scooter was hit by a car Monday afternoon, resulting in serious injuries to the senior.

According to a statement from the Ridge Meadows RCMP detachment, Mounties were dispatched at 3 p.m. Monday for a report of a pedestrian on a mobility scooter who was struck by a car at the intersection of 119 Avenue and 228 Street in Maple Ridge.

The 91-year-old pedestrian was subsequently transported to hospital by emergency health services and is in serious condition.

The intersection is closed to traffic and drivers are being re-routed and asked to avoid the area.

The driver of the vehicle has remained on scene and is speaking with police.

Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline officers are being assisted by the detachment’s Investigative Support Team. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is also on scene. No further information will be released at this time.
