CHILLIWACK — Residents in the Fraser Valley are springing into action in May – for good cause.

A number of running and walking events are coming up in Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Hope to raise funds for medical equipment at their respective community hospitals.

Hope kicks off the series with the five-kilometre “Run for Hope” on May 2. The loop starts at Fraser Canyon Hospital and moves along the Coquihalla River, Thacker Park and back.

Participants would be collecting donations for an ophthalmic device that measures pressure inside the eye, which helps diagnose glaucoma and other eye conditions.

Abbotsford’s “Walk for Cardiac Health” a week later takes a stroll at Mill Lake Park to raise funds for the cardiac unit at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

Finally, on Mother’s Day on May 10, Chilliwack residents will be hosting a five-kilometre “Run for Mom” to support maternity care and services at Chilliwack General Hospital.

“Getting involved in these events is a wonderful way to give back to the community while enjoying the fresh air and staying active with friends,” said Liz Harris, Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation executive director. “Whether you’re a runner, walker, or simply looking to show your support, there is sure to be an event for you!”

The FVHCF supports communities from Abbotsford and Mission to Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs. Registration is available through the foundation’s event page.
