Chilliwack RCMP urge residents to lock doors after a senior’s home was broken into while he slept
CHILLIWACK – A Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson is urging residents to lock their doors while they sleep after a resident’s home was broken into over the weekend and an important belonging of his was stolen.
A social media user reported in a Chilliwack Facebook group over the weekend that a retired Army veteran living on Broadway Street in Chilliwack had his studio broken into early Saturday morning (Feb. 21) while he was resting. An IPad was stolen from the residence, and the social media user said it was the second time that her adopted dad’s residence had experienced a break-in. The IPad was a primary source of comfort and connection for the senior.
RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener has confirmed a break-in occurred.
“There was no forced entry and one other electronic device was taken. We weren’t able to locate any CCTV and no serial numbers for the items were available,” Cpl. Kiener said. It is believed that the individuals involved entered the home while the resident was sleeping.”
