Child dies after being struck by vehicle in an Abbotsford parking lot Thursday

ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say a child has tragically died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a townhouse complex on Simon Avenue.

Sgt. Paul Walker told Fraser Valley Today that AbbyPD patrol officers were notified about a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the parking lot of a townhouse complex in the 32000 block of Simon Avenue at approximately 12:45 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 13).

Despite immediate action taken by witnesses and first responders, the pedestrian, a child, has succumbed to their injuries at the scene, Sgt. Walker said.

Sgt. Walker said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The investigation is in its early stages and is being supported by personnel from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the Abbotsford Police Victim Services Unit.

The entrance to the Townhouse Complex is currently closed to vehicle traffic while officers continue to gather evidence.

“The Abbotsford Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the child involved in this tragic incident,” Sgt. Walker said.
