CHILLIWACK — Thousands of Chilliwack residents – and some businesses – have lost power after a bird flew into power lines Sunday morning (Dec. 14).

BC Hydro reported a power outage at 10:43 a.m. in the areas south of Road A, north of Watson Road, and west of Queen Street, affecting 2,708 customers.

Customers shopping in the Sardis area, from the Winners at Chilliwack Mall to 7-Eleven, reported outages at their respective stores.

Witnesses reported that a large bird, which appeared to be a swan, made contact with wires along Vedder Road shortly before power went out.
