No injuries after crews tackle ‘difficult’ house fire behind Rolly’s in Hope

HOPE — The Hope Fire Department responded to a burning home Friday evening, December 12.

At 6:25 p.m., fire crews, along with BCEHS and RCMP, were paged out to a fully-involved house fire in the 200 block of Hudson Bay Street, behind Rolly’s Restaurant.

Three apparatus and twelve firefighters worked for several hours to prevent the blaze from spreading to a neighbour. The blaze was declared out at 9:40 p.m.

Deputy Fire Chief Westcott noted the incident’s “difficulty” as the structure became unstable and the roof collapsed shortly after arrival.

“Our crews worked tirelessly to protect the adjacent home,” said Westcott. “The dedication and effort shown by our firefighters deserve the utmost respect.”

Both residents managed to escape before firefighters arrived, and no injuries have been reported.

The cause remains under investigation.
