Inmate sent to hospital after prison assault in Mission

MISSION — An inmate has been assaulted at Mission Institution last week, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

CSC says the incident occurred on November 10 at the medium-security unit.

Staff members attended to the injured inmate and took them to hospital for treatment.

The inmate has since returned to prison, and appropriate actions have been taken regarding the assailant.

No other staff members or inmates were injured during the incident.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” said the CSC.

As with all cases, the CSC says it will review the incident and take appropriate measures to prevent similar events from happening again in the future.
