IIO concludes investigation after arrest of armed man hit with bean bag rounds in Abbotsford
ABBOTSFORD — B.C.’s police watchdog has now wrapped up its investigation into the arrest of an Abbotsford man after he sustained some injury while being apprehended in early June.
On June 23, at around 11 a.m., the Abbotsford Police Department responded to reports of a man with a knife “behaving erratically” in the residential area of the 32400 block of Emerald Drive.
Officers found the individual, who failed to comply, leading to the deployment of less-lethal bean bag rounds to help with the arrest.
The man was then taken to hospital for treatment, and the IIO was notified about the incident the following day, when police believed the man may have sustained serious harm.
