MAPLE RIDGE – Police in Maple Ridge say a woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries sometime ago after her husband’s BB gun accidentally discharged and struck her.

According to a social media post from the Maple Ridge RCMP detachment dated Friday, October 9, officers attended a discharged firearms call at a home. Police say the subject of the complaint turned himself in to officers when they arrived at the residence, and the female victim had been taken to hospital with minor injuries. Police did not reveal the exact date of the incident on social media.

Police learned that a man had been showing his wife something with his BB gun, which he thought was unloaded, when it accidentally went off and injured her. Officers ensured the victim’s safety, who then later independently corroborated the stated version of events.

“Subject of the complaint was released from cells, however, most likely sleeping on the couch for the night,” police said. “Note: airsoft pistols are not a toy. Use precaution when handling any imitation firearm, keep out of the hands of children, and make sure to securely store these items.”

In another unusual incident as told by Maple Ridge RCMP, a man wanted to report an alleged assault at a bar the day prior. Police say an unknown woman walked up to the man and randomly kissed him in the bar. The man’s girlfriend, who witnessed the encounter, was “none too pleased” and punched him in the mouth, Maple Ridge RCMP said. No charges were pursued after the initial investigation, but police say they were happy to report that this “love triangle” ended “rather amicably.”

In another peculiar police file, a complainant contacted police to report an unknown male mistreating a cat in the area. The feline was described as furry, black and grey, and appeared to be a tabby breed. When RCMP members attended the area, however, no cat or male was located. A male was located nearby in possession of a fuzzy black and grey fleece jacket with similar markings to a tabby. Oddly enough, the male had three outstanding warrants and was detained and transported to cells for the night until court the next day.

“No word on whether the furry fleece accompanied him for his overnight cat nap,” police said.
