ABBOTSFORD – A former candidate in last year’s federal election from the Fraser Valley has let her name stand for the NDP in this month’s provincial election.

Jules Côté will be the NDP’s candidate in the Abbotsford-West riding, which was previously won by B.C. Conservative Party member Korky Neufeld two years ago.

Côté, who was born and raised in Abbotsford, is a political science student at the University of the Fraser Valley, according to a statement from the NDP. She is a member of the National Farmers Union and has volunteered with the local food bank and the Starfish Pack Program.

In 2025, she was the NDP candidate for Mission—Matsqui—Abbotsford in the federal election.

“I’ve seen too many working families struggling to make ends meet,” Côté said. “This is a direct result of a system that’s stacked against them. A system that has handed over too much power to too few people, leaving working families behind. Today, five corporations make 80 per cent of the country’s grocery sales, four companies handle 88 per cent of our wheat, and two control 80 per cent of our bread.”

In a statement, the NDP said candidates like Côté are stepping forward at a critical time for B.C., bringing local experience and a commitment to serving their communities as an escalating trade war with the United States puts jobs, businesses and families under pressure.

“British Columbians are looking for leaders who understand what’s happening in their communities and will fight for the things that matter most,” said David Eby, Leader of the BC NDP. “These candidates know their communities, they know the challenges people are facing, and they’re ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.”

The NDP said the province is facing a period of real uncertainty, with American tariffs putting pressure on workers and businesses across the province.

“The BC NDP will continue working to protect British Columbians from the impacts of the trade war, open new markets for B.C. businesses and build an economy that is less dependent on the United States,” the NDP wrote in a statement.
