[VIDEO] Plainclothes AbbyPD officer puts theft suspect in sleeper hold for resisting arrest

ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department is responding to a video making the rounds on social media of a plainclothes officer arresting a “combative” suspect Thursday evening (Sept. 17).

In a statement to Fraser Valley Today, AbbyPD said that just after 5 p.m., a complainant reported that a woman came in, stole merchandise, then threw items at staff before leaving the business in the 3200 block of Mt. Lehman Road.

Nearly an hour later, a plainclothes officer found the suspect near the intersection of Townline Road and Maclure Road.

“The suspect was observed displaying unusual behaviour, including washing her hands with bleach,” said AbbyPD. “When the officer informed her that she was under arrest for theft, she became assaultive toward the officer and began to resist arrest.”
