Abbotsford police respond to 428 calls over long weekend

ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford Police Department frontline officers responded to 428 calls for service over the Labour Day long weekend.

On Friday night, officers responded to 63 calls, including assaults, disturbances, mental health-related incidents, threats, thefts and fights. No major incidents were reported.

On Saturday, additional officers monitored a protest along South Fraser Way, where about 25 people attended at its peak. Officers also conducted speed enforcement on Old Yale Road.

Overnight, eight people were ejected from a concert at Rogers Arena for intoxication-related issues. Officers later responded to a shooting on McCallum Road. Two impaired drivers were also removed from the road.

On Sunday, 43 additional officers were deployed for the Nagar Kirtan Procession. A few lost children were quickly reunited with their families.

Overnight, officers responded to 65 calls and located five impaired drivers.

On Monday, officers conducted foot patrols and traffic enforcement. Two impaired drivers were removed from the road and two vehicles were impounded for excessive speed.

Early Tuesday, officers responded to a mental health-related incident on Mayfair Avenue. A less-lethal shotgun was deployed to safely apprehend a man flailing around a hammer.

The AbbyPD social media report says police reported 15 impaired drivers were removed from roads, 140 violation tickets were issued and six people were held in custody.
