Maple Ridge RCMP issue 452 tickets in summer road safety enforcement blitz
MAPLE RIDGE — Figures from the Maple Ridge RCMP suggest officers have had a busy few months on the road this summer.
The detachment’s Road Safety Target Team and frontline officers issued 452 violation tickets, removed 103 impaired drivers from local roads and 69 excessive speeders going more than 40 kilometres an hour over the speed limit, and seized 63 vehicles from June to August.
“If you’re planning to celebrate this long weekend, please plan ahead and drive responsibly to ensure everyone’s safety on our roads,” said Maple Ridge RCMP Specialized Response Team Sergeant Joe Whalley. “A potentially serious or fatal injury collision to you or your family or friends is no way to end your summer.”
RSTT officers are set to continue enforcing speed limits and conducting roadside impairment checks heading into the fall, as well as patrolling nearby schools to remind motorists to adjust their driving behaviours in school zones.
