Council invests $85K to prevent homelessness in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford officials are looking to support local homelessness prevention with new grant funding in the city.

On Tuesday, September 1, Council approved allocating $85,000 from its annual federal funding to the Mennonite Central Committee.

The money will go towards the MCC’s Fraser Valley Rent Bank, which helps people struggling to pay for housing by offering urgent, short-term financial assistance, as well as its Flexible Encampment Response Fund for folks transitioning from encampments to permanent housing.

“Together, these programs support a prevention-focused approach to homelessness by helping individuals and families maintain existing housing, while also strengthening housing-focused encampment response by providing flexible resources to overcome barriers to permanent housing,” said the City.
