B.C. man charged in two-vehicle crash that killed 2, injured 4 in the Fraser Canyon
FRASER CANYON/LYTTON – A B.C. man is facing a BC Motor Vehicle Act charge and a provincial court date after an investigation into a fatal crash that happened on Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon just south of Lytton last year.
BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Michael McLaughlin says two people died and four people were injured after a black Ford SUV collided with a grey GMC pickup on Highway 1 just south of Lytton on August 14, 2025, just before 5 p.m.
Sgt. McLaughlin says the investigation was transferred to the BC Highway Patrol in the weeks after the fatal collision. He says the investigation results were forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for charge approval.
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, 44-year-old Joel Chenier of Williams Lake, B.C., was charged with driving without due care and attention in violation of section 144(1)(a) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
