The fire caused significant structural damage.

Fraser Valley Today has asked Sgt. Walker if extortion is associated to the suspicious fire.

“We have to follow the evidence and speak to the home owners, witnesses and so on,” Sgt. Walker said Monday evening via text with Fraser Valley Today. “It’s too early to tell.”

Sgt. Walker says Abbotsford PD investigators will maintain a presence at the scene overnight and into tomorrow as the investigation continues.

Fire crews remained on scene several hours after the initial fire broke out. They were seen spraying water onto the south-facing side of the home at 7:45 p.m. when a Fraser Valley Today reporter was on scene.

No one was injured in the fire.

The home in question is a nine-bedroom, 11-bathroom home of over 8,500 square feet, according to BC Assessment records.

The property is surrounded by berry farms in the area amid lush farm fields.
