Mission firefighters tackle burning mill early morning

MISSION — Some residents may have woken up to blaring sirens as crews in Mission put out a mill fire early Friday morning, July 24.

The Mission Fire Rescue Service was on scene of the incident on Harbour Avenue at around 4:30 a.m.

“Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the mill involving the conveyor belt that loads and transports logs into the mill for processing,” said MFRS Deputy Chief Nick Rychkun.

Firefighters then worked to contain the blaze to the back of the property, keeping it away from the mill’s internal working area.
