UPDATE, 11:45 A.M. WEDNESDAY: Police in Maple Ridge have released a vague statement about one of two serious incidents that happened Tuesday night in Maple Ridge.

According to a a brief release, Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a “serious” incident in the 12100 block of 287 Street in Maple Ridge on Tuesday evening at about 6 p.m.

Multiple units responded including the BC RCMP LMD Emergency Response Team (ERT), Police Dog Services (PDS), and multiple frontline and plainclothes units.

This incident is part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by Richmond Mounties.

“Maple Ridge RCMP continues to work closely with Richmond RCMP and other partner agencies on this matter,” police said.

Maple Ridge RCMP have referred the matter to the Richmond RCMP media relations unit.

Police in Maple Ridge also did not release any information about an incident over the weekend in which residents reported sirens blaring and choppers flying overhead as police conducted an investigation in parts of the city Saturday evening, July 18. A number of locals took to social media at around 4:30 p.m on Saturday, reporting that at least 25 police cars rushed across the Golden Ears Bridge amid a loud boom near 227 Street and 123 Avenue. Shortly after, roughly three police helicopters were seen circling the area, as well as a large police presence gathered on 227th by 5 p.m.RCMP only issued a statement at 5:23 p.m. Saturday, saying officers were responding to locations near the Port Haney Wharf and Silver Valley with support from specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team.

MAPLE RIDGE – Police in Maple Ridge say they’re responding to two serious incidents Tuesday night in two parts of the city and have closed the immediate vicinity around both ongoing incidents.

Maple Ridge Mounties are currently on scene of a serious incident in the 11200 block of 287 Street, but haven’t revealed what it entails.

They say their officers are also responding to an unrelated report of shots fired in the 21900 block of Lougheed Highway.

Both areas are closed while officers conduct their investigation.

“We are asking the public to avoid these areas until further notice,” Maple Ridge RCMP said in a statement. “Maple Ridge RCMP appreciates the cooperation of the public and media during this time.”

Further updates will be provided as they become available, police said.

A person reported in a Maple Ridge Facebook group at 9:56 p.m. Tuesday night that she was standing at a bus stop at 243 Street and observed approximately seven cops and four ERT (Emergency Response Team) vehicles heading towards Garibaldi Secondary School.

Another person in the same Maple Ridge Facebook group said he witnessed a helicopter flying overhead in the past hour.

“Helicopter doing laps around the 216th/ Dewdney/Lougheed area. Anyone know why?”
