Jul 15, 2026 | 11:45 AM

CHILLIWACK – The City of Chilliwack says it’s looking for people interested in working as elections officials in advance of this fall’s municipal election.

The fall election will be held on Saturday, October 17, but the city is now recruiting to fill a number of positions.

The chief election officer for the city invites applications from individuals to serve as election officials as residents vote to elect city councillors, school trustees and park board commissioners.

As far as hours of work are concerned, election officials are required at one advance poll (either 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., or 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) on either Wednesday, October 7, or Wednesday, October 14, and on voting day (Saturday, Oct. 17), from either 8:30-3:30 or 4:30-8:30 p.m.

The hours worked will not exceed 34 hours for the 2-week period.

Election officials who have not worked a general local election must attend a mandatory training session on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The City of Chilliwack says election officials must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older;
  • Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia;
  • Provide their own transportation to and from the voting place;
  • Attend a mandatory training session;
  • Not be related to any candidate running for office in the general election; and
  • Not be actively working for any election campaign or any candidate.

The city of Chilliwack is looking to fill the following roles for the election:

  • Registration Clerk: Registering voters and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Door Attendant: Manage entry points, direct voters, and maintain order at the voting location.
  • Ballot Box Attendant: Oversee the secure handling and monitoring of ballot boxes.
  • Voting Booth Attendant: Ensure voting booths are properly set up and assist voters as needed.

The rate of pay is $23 per hour for all positions, and $20 per hour for the two-hour training session, which only applies to those who are new to working the election.

Election officials must take an oath, or solemn declaration, to faithfully fulfil their duties. For example, officials must not be related to any candidate running for office or be actively involved in any election campaign or candidate’s activities in the Local Government Election.
