CHILLIWACK — Police have removed 10 impaired drivers from local roads as summer rolled in through Chilliwack – three of whom were uncooperative.

According to the detachment’s weekly snapshot from June 8 to June 14, one driver refused to provide a breath sample, tried to walk away from officers and resisted arrest.

The incident then escalated, damaging a police car and requiring multiple officers to help arrest the driver safely.

On Tyson Road, an impaired driver ran a red light, failed a breath test, then ran from police. RCMP say they were quickly found and arrested.

Another individual tried to avoid police during a check stop of about 100 vehicles on Columbia Valley Highway one evening. The driver received an immediate roadside ban and a ticket for driving without insurance.

Intoxication also proved to be an issue during the weekend as police arrested a number of drunk individuals for “several disturbances” at Cultus Lake.

“The warmer weather this past weekend brought more visitors to the Cultus Lake area, keeping our seasonal policing team busy,” said Cpl. Carmen Kiener with the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP detachment.

RCMP tackled illegal parking jobs at Maple Bay, speeding drivers and a speeding jet ski operator in a swimming-only zone at Main Beach.

They responded to a total of 867 calls for service that week.
