Surrey man, 22, arrested and charged for attempted child abduction
SURREY – Police in Surrey say a 22-year-old man has been charged with one count of child abduction and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon after he allegedly kidnapped a child Saturday evening in Surrey.
Surrey Police Service frontline officers were called to an attempted child kidnapping on Saturday, June 13 at 6:38 p.m., in the 8100 block of 136A Street in Surrey. Police learned that a child who was playing outside in a driveway was approached by a stranger and physically picked up.
Bystanders witnessed the incident and intervened, resulting in the stranger putting the child down and leaving the scene.
Police say a man matching the description of the suspect was physically help by bystanders a short distance away until police arrived and took him into custody. The child was not physically injured in the incident.
