CHILLIWACK – Volunteers will be looking to clean up the remnants of an illegal shooting gallery in the Chilliwack River Valley this weekend.

Longtime Chilliwack resident and environmental steward Ross Aikenhead says local residents who want to help pitch in are invited to meet at On the Way Store (46484 Chilliwack Lake Road) this Saturday, June 13 at 10 a.m. as he and others remediate debris from an unauthorized shooting gallery.

The shooting gallery is located approximately 2.5 kilometres up New Borden Forest Service Road, south of Chilliwack Lake Road.

For people who want to pop the coordinates into Google Maps, they are 49.06508, -121.71640.

Aikenhead says he plans to bring rakes, shovels, garbage bags and a magnetic sweeper.

He’s advising people who might be thinking of driving to the illegal shooting gallery that there’s a rough section of New Borden FSR that “isn’t exactly car-friendly.”

“The biggest problem is there is a lot of broken glass from people shooting bottles that will be time consuming,” Aikenhead said.

Aikenhead will also be supplying wood for a fire, hotdogs and fixings for afterwards.
