ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say a teenage driver’s decision to go more than double the speed limit on an Abbotsford road backfired in a big way Wednesday night.

In a statement, AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker says a 17-year-old driver holding a Class 7 N license was stopped after he was clocked at 100 km/h in a posted 50 zone on Downes Road by one of the agency’s Traffic Enforcement Unit officers.

Sgt. Walker says the driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket, and his parent’s vehicle was impounded for seven days.

“Decisions made behind the wheel have real consequences,” AbbyPD Sgt. Walker said. “Speeding puts lives at risk and impacts not only drivers, but families and the broader community. Our goal is simple—to ensure everyone gets home safely. Our teams continue to conduct proactive speed enforcement as part of our ongoing road safety efforts.”
