IIO seeks witnesses to suspect arrest in Coquitlam ending in medical distress

COQUITLAM — B.C.’s police watchdog is now seeking more information on an arrest that ended with the suspect being taken to hospital in serious condition in Coquitlam.

On November 20, 2025, at around 6:30 a.m., the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) said RCMP were paged out to an assault call at a home on the 1800 block of Coquitlam Avenue.

Police found a man and a woman inside the residence, and when they tried to arrest the man, an interaction took place between him and the officers.

The man then went into medical distress after he was detained.

Paramedics attended to him at the scene before he was taken away by a BC Emergency Health Services ambulance.

The IIO was notified a week later, and now, investigators have found a connection between the incident and officer action or inaction.
