LANGLEY — Langley police have stopped a driver and their metal steed after speeding through a neighbourhood this week.

On February 4, RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling 129 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone in Willoughby.

The driver received a ticket for excessive speed, and the vehicle was impounded for one week under the Motor Vehicle Act.

“Speeding at this level significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death,” said Sergeant Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP.

Langley RCMP’s Road Safety Unit also recently stopped another vehicle for speeding 115 km/h in a 60 zone, accelerating to 120 km/h before being pulled over.

The electric car was impounded for seven days. The driver was fined for exceeding the speed limit and crossing solid white lines.

“Even quiet cars can make loud mistakes… Speed limits and lane lines still apply,” wrote Langley RCMP in a social media post. “Slow it down and help keep Langley roads safe for everyone.”

Mounties are also reminding drivers that speed limits are in place to protect all road users– including pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists.

Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving is encouraged to report it to their local detachment.
