Wind warning issued for Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Hope

FRASER VALLEY — Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning covering Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Hope.

According to a statement from the national weather agency, southwesterly winds gusting to 90 km/h are expected in Chilliwack and Hope late this evening into early Wednesday morning. Abbotsford could see similar gusts of up to 80 km/h.

Environment Canada says a vigorous cold front will move across the South Coast tonight. As part of the weather front, strong southwesterly winds will “funnel up” through the Fraser Valley producing wind gusts up to 90 km/h.

Winds will ease but remain gusty Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada says local utility outages are possible. Residents should secure loose objects and stay away from fallen power lines.
