MISSION — Mounties in Mission say they resolved a situation earlier this month involving a homeless man with an axe who threatened to decapitate another man at a Mission business.

According to a police blotter recap, Mission RCMP received a panic alarm notification from a business on North Railway Avenue at around noon on Thursday, December 4. Officers attended and discovered that a man from a nearby homeless encampment had entered the business holding an axe, saying he was going to cut off the head of another man, who was not known to anyone at the business.

Mounties in Mission then responded to the nearby homeless camp and located the man who was still holding the axe. Police say officers de-escalated the man, who later put down the axe.

“The man appeared to be going through a mental health crisis, and was taken to hospital for assessment and care. No one was injured during the incident,” Mission RCMP said.
