CHILLIWACK — Farmers in the Fraser Valley will have another opportunity to upgrade their operations as the province opens its farming fund for next-generation farmers.

The New Entrant Farm Business Accelerator Program will be opening to help eligible farmers create or update a growth strategy for their operations.

“New and young farmers are the future of agriculture in Canada,” said Heath MacDonald, federal minister of agriculture and agri-food.

“Investments through the New Entrant Farm Business Accelerator Program are helping early-stage B.C. farmers with planning and pursuing new growth opportunities that will support their long-term success.”

The last intake included Chilliwack’s own Charnwood Flowers, which helped the farm purchase a large cold-frame greenhouse to extend the growing season. As a result, the business was able to increase sales by having more flowers to sell year-round.

“We were able to use the funding from this program to build a cold-frame greenhouse, which has been instrumental in expanding our business and growing season. We are very grateful that this program is available to new farmers to help with the costs of adding necessary infrastructure,” said co-owner Mikayla Macleod.

Funds support eligible applicants with $120,000 in Phase 1 and $600,000 in the second phase through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

The second intake saw 75 participants in Phase 1 and 53 in Phase 2.

Applications are set to open from November 3 to November 24, 2025.
