ABBOTSFORD — No community project is too small to fund, as the City of Abbotsford returns with the $20,000 Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program.

The grant offers up to $1,000 in initiatives that build vibrant communities and form friendships among residents. Projects are split into three categories:

  • Neighbourhood Connection, e.g. block parties, workshops and events
  • Neighbourhood Beautification, e.g. gardening, park clean-up and community improvement initiatives
  • Neighbourhood Safety, e.g. landscaping for visibility and surveillance, street lighting and graffiti clean-up.

In 2024, the City gave out a total of $19,500 to 40 unique local projects.

“Recipients of last year’s grants focused their initiatives […] included a variety of projects such as park clean-up events, a celebration of cultures, a community garden seed swap and compost spreading event, samosa and tea neighbourhood gathering, teaching people to upcycle fabrics into new garments and creating care packages for cancer patients and children in hospital,” wrote the City of Abbotsford in a news release.

The NSG is funded through a partnership with the Vancouver Foundation and Abbotsford Community Foundation.

All residents and students are eligible as long as their project is inclusive, free, and held in Abbotsford. Businesses, associations or non-profits are not encouraged to apply. Applications are open on the City’s website until April 14, 2025.
