CHILLIWACK — The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment (UFVRD) of the RCMP has launched its new Strategic Plan, which outlines the operational priorities for the next three years, focusing on community safety, strong partnerships, effective communication, and organizational excellence.

Operating under a regional policing model, UFVRD serves a wide area, including Chilliwack, Agassiz, Boston Bar, and Hope along with neighboring Indigenous communities. The detachment’s Chilliwack headquarters oversees four Community Policing Offices (CPOs) that provide policing services, including uniformed response, specialized investigative units, and community outreach.

The strategic plan, which was developed over the course of a year, incorporates feedback from UFVRD members, operational staff, citizens, and community partners. Extensive consultations identified key policing and safety priorities for the communities served.

Four main priorities make up the plan:

  1. Enhance Community Safety: The area includes increasing targeted enforcement, patrol visibility, and community event participation. UFVRD also expects to continue working with Crown Counsel and advancing public awareness ofcrime prevention.
  2. Strong Partnerships: The detachment will work to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, enhance cultural awareness, and collaborate with local businesses and youth organizations to tackle crime.
  3. Enhance Communication: UFVRD will focus on improving internal communication through regular surveys, meetings, and townhalls, as well as developing a communications strategy to better inform the public.
  4. Support Our People & Organizational Excellence: The detachment remains dedicated to career development, training, and the wellness of both officers and civilians, while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

The strategic plan is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future. The UFVRD says regular updates will used to keep the plan on track and relevant to the community.
