ABBOTSFORD — Not a bad way to get the ball rolling on the 2024 season.

The UFV Cascades women’s soccer program kicked off their 2023 recruiting class with the signing of Chilliwack local Emerson Toop on Wednesday (Oct. 11). Toop, a 5’4″ winger who attends G.W. Graham Secondary and plays for Langley United, will join the Cascades for the start of the 2024 Canada West season.

“I am excited to welcome Emerson to the UFV program,” said UFV head coach Ari Adams in a news release from the Cascades.

Adams noted that Toop has attributes that could allow her to have success quickly.

“Her speed and athleticism differentiate her from other players on the field, and her personal values and work ethic align with our program,” Adams said. “I think Emerson will be a player to watch next year, contributing on the field right away.”

Toop said she hopes to make an impact both on and off the field in her time at UFV.

“I like the style of play, and how Ari is developing a competitive and skilled team,” Toop explained about why she chose UFV. “I hope to be a player noticed for her hard work on and off the field. I want to make an impact on this team — and winning a National Championship would be nice, too!”

The Cascades are set to close out their 2023 Canada West regular season this weekend when they host the University of Victoria on Friday at 7 p.m. and Mount Royal University on Sunday at 1 p.m. Everything is still to play for, as UFV looks to lock up a playoff spot.
