KELOWNA — After a tough loss at home to start the season against Vancouver College in which the Grizzlies scored only one touchdown, the GW Graham senior varsity football team looked to get back into the win column over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

The Grizzlies took out whatever motivation they had on the Kelowna Owls with a resounding 24-0 road win Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7).

GW Graham (1-1) sent a message early on defence with an interception by lineback Riley Ashley, to go along with his 6 tackles and one sack. Linebackers Josh Seo (6 tackles) and Billy Hunter (5 tackles) made plays on defence when it counted.

QB Aiden Hewitt made it happen on offence with 20 completions for 191 yards in the first half and 2 TDs through the air. Wide receiver Christian Beck and running back Grady Andrea each caught one of Hewitt’s passing strikes to give the Grizzlies a 14-0 lead at halftime.

The second half showed the power of the Grizzlies ground game, cycling 4 running backs through the game, including Yapo Conteh, Maleky Colgiu, Noah Johnson and Grady Andrea.

On special teams, kicker Josh Seo added a field, and Grady Andrea had a TD on the ground to cap the scoring at 24-0.

Head Coach Ryk Piche said, “This was a much needed bounce back game for our program. We started doing the little things right, and it showed in our execution in all three phases of the game.”

The Grizzlies 1-1 host the Mt. Boucherie Bears on Friday, October 13 at Exhibition Field at 4 p.m.
